Baby 2.0 {39 Week Bumpdate}

*False labor at 38 weeks -- I was having intense contractions for about 2 hours and finally called my doctor who told me to head to L&D. By the time we got the rest of our bags packed and the car loaded up, the contractions had really slowed down, and since the hospital was full and we were being sent to another hospital, we decided to wait it out...and they never picked back up
*1.5cm dilated, 50% effaced, -1 station
*TONS of pressure
*lots of general cramping
*Walked a ton on Monday and could barely walk any more by the end of the day the pressure was so much!
*Up at least 3 times a night to use the potty
*If baby boy isn't here by Monday (2/15/16 -- the day after his due date) I'll schedule my induction for 2/22/16

Baby 2.0 {36 Week Bumpdate}

*Right around 34/35 weeks I started having pretty regular contractions lasting all day-turns out they were the result of a bladder infection
*Still lots of Braxton Hicks
*So much pressure
*Nausea has gotten a bit worse
*Haven't gained any weight in about a month! Woo hoo!!
*Tested positive for Strep B
*Christian has started saying that he is having a "baby sister" instead of a brother...hopefully he doesn't know something we don't!
*He also has started saying that he doesn't want baby to come out of mommy's belly..."he should stay in there until morning maybe" he will often say

I am NOT in Control

In my head I knew I wasn't, but I don't think I ever really believed it. Not until recently.

I could quote all the Bible verses about God being in control and I believed them...but not really? I guess I still thought I had a lot more control than I really do.

"You can make plans, but the Lord's purpose will prevail." ~Proverbs 19:21

"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord. "They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope." ~Jeremiah 29:11

"We can make our plans, but the Lord determines our steps." ~Proverbs 16:9

Or maybe I just thought that God would always do things my way. Because my way is best right?

My life is far from perfect, but if I'm being honest, there is also a lot in my life that has seemed to just go my way. Or at least I quickly forget the times that it wasn't going my way...

Like when my long term "I'm going to marry him" boyfriend from high school broke up with me for no reason.

I was not in control.

Which was a good thing, because I was then able to meet the man who became my husband and is perfect for me -- he pushes me to grow, he takes time to understand me (sometimes better that I understand me), he leads our family, he provides so well for us, he is goofy, he is patient, he is kind and has such a big heart. And he is the father of my baby boy. I'm so glad I was not in control.

Also, that time that I "wanted" to go to Bethel Seminary and then prayed for a way out of staying there all year long.

I was not in control.

And guess what?? Once again, that was a good thing. If I had been in control I would have left, which probably would have meant I wouldn't have learned what I needed to to put me in a place that I was ready to meet my future husband. I'm so glad I was  not in control.

And when we got pregnant with Christian on our honeymoon and I thought "Wow, that was easy. We are in control of when we have babies". This was then only confirmed by the one time of trying back in December and getting pregnant right away with baby #2. However, we had tried but didn't think it was possible that month and it still happened. Again, so not in control.

But, even more...

I was not in control.

We went on find out that we won't get to hold that baby here on earth because he or she went to be in heaven at just before 6 weeks old. And as hard as that was, I had hope. I have hope now even as we are almost 2 months into trying to conceive again and being reminded each month of how little control I actually have over the process of conception. New life truly is such a miracle.

I am not in control.

And while it is often easy to see and realize how little control we have in our lives in the BIG things, we actually have just as little control in the little things too.

I am not in control.

When Christian wakes up an hour and a half early on a morning that I had planned to wake up before him, I am reminded....

I am not in control.

When our day doesn't go as planned. Christian is teething, or tired, or fighting his nap and my to-do list is sitting on the counter collecting dust as usual....

I am not in control.

But there is beauty when we are not in control. Yes, I said beauty. And there is also freedom.

Freedom from worrying because we can trust in our heavenly father to always have the best for us through all situations.

Even more than freedom and beauty, there is rest.

When we are still and just rest in God and open our eyes and ears for what He has for us in each day, each moment, we are never striving. We aren't overwhelmed with worry. We are walking in Him and through Him and leaning on Him for the strength we need to overcome whatever he gives us in our day to day lives from the big to the small. Because after all, I am not in control.

And when I just accept that and lean into that, I can find peace as everything truly goes my way, every day, every moment. Especially as I'm blessed with moments like this that weren't "in my plan".

After fighting his nap and just playing in his crib for almost 2 hours, he finally fell asleep and I had to just go in and see his cute little self sleeping so innocently. It took so much to not scoop him up and rock him...

So while I used to think that I couldn't live without control...I'm actually finding that I so couldn't live without not having control.

Now that's a tongue twister!

Baby 2.0 {Our Angel Baby}-- Bumpdate!

{I've debated sharing this, but decided that it's part of our story and I still want to document it and save the memories. So while we will never hold Baby 2.0 in our arms, we will always hold that sweet peanut in our hearts.}

It's crazy how different pregnancy has been this time around! It's also funny how God works...

Shortly after sharing about maybe being content with just one little monster, I started to feel ready to maybe actually have another! It was actually right around that time too, that we thought we might actually be pregnant...not because we were trying, though! Because we weren't.

My body was just confusing me I guess...or maybe God was preparing me for what He knew was to come in the next 2 months!

Either way, this time around I starting feeling and noticing symptoms early...probably around just 3 weeks! But because of our recent "we might be pregnant!" and I was wrong, I figured I was just being crazy again. Although, this time we had "sort of" been trying...

Around 3 weeks I didn't know that I was pregnant, but I was already feeling round ligament pain, which definitely had me wondering! I remembered this pain from early on with Christian. That twinge of pain when you roll over or cough...yep. I had that!

I was also feeling pretty tired. However, we had just gotten back from spending Christmas in New York where Christian didn't exactly nap the best or sleep very well at night...so that could have been a perfect explanation!

The night before I finally decided to test, I was literally falling asleep on the couch at 8:30pm. Now, I generally am a bit of an early to bed person {especially compared to my husband!} but 8:30pm was even early for me! The next morning as I was getting out the eggs to make breakfast, I was suddenly overcome with a bit of nausea at the thought of eggs.

In that moment, I knew that I needed to take a test.

So I did.

And voila!

:::January 9, 2015:::
3 weeks

It didn't take long at all for that to show up! Despite only barely trying for one month {we totally didn't think we even timed it right for it to be possible that month!} we were PREGGO and I was sooo excited!

I had to tell someone! But Jim was at work so I knew I should wait and come up with some cute way to tell him, so I text a pic of the test to one of my best friends, of course. We then chatted a bit and came up with some ideas of how to tell Jim.

Unfortunately, my excitement overtook me and I ended up just telling Jim on the phone...well he will say I told him in a text message...

Note to self: If you're wanting to get pregnant and your hubby knows its almost time to test, don't text him asking-- "If I had something important to tell you would you want to know now or later?"

Oops.

Anyway, he knew right away and Facetimed me and Christian and we told him for real.

We set to work right away on coming up with a way to tell our families {and our small group because they are practically family too!}

We wrote a poem and mailed it with this picture to our families:
Roses are Red,
Violets are Blue,
I know it's early for Valentine's Day,
But, oh boy (or girl!) do I have a surprise for you!

5 weeks

This time around we actually only took 1 test. With Christian I think we took at least 3 just to be sure...then we went to urgent care for a blood test because we were so excited and just wanted to be sure that we were pregnant. We were silly.

We learned then that at home tests generally don't give false positives, so if you get a positive test, you're probably pregnant.

I was still nervous, though, that despite the positive test, I might actually not be pregnant. But then 5 weeks rolled around and I missed my period, which was a little more confirmation for me. However, silly me, you're only 4 weeks when you miss your period. I was so confused on my dates this time! A missed period and still being pretty tired and napping a lot more and having moments of nausea and some continued round ligament pain was continued confirmation for me.

6 Weeks

With Christian I was literally nauseous 24/7 and miserable beyond belief starting just a few days before 6 weeks, so as soon as we got our positive, I was counting the days I had left to "feel good". But 6 weeks came and I was still feeling ok! The moments of nausea were just that, moments! Nothing compared to Christian....not even close! It did make me a little nervous not being super sick...because sick to me was normal! I did lay in bed trying to fall asleep but I was super nauseous at 6 weeks 3 days and then felt a little sick again the next morning. But this time around, I know that even if I don't feel well, eating will actually make me feel better. I think that bit of knowledge and motivation early on this time is helping me out.

Christian has also started to say "baby" and will even point to my belly when I ask him where the baby is. When we first told him there was a baby in my belly he looked at us like we were crazy! Like NO WAY can that happen!!! ha ha It was priceless! He has thought there is a baby in his belly a few times, though, too :)

7 Weeks

At this point my due date (and weeks) were calculated merely off of baby center's due date calculator based on my last period. However, I'm not sure that it was super accurate for me since I have a longer cycle (more like 34-35 days and not the usual 28 days that they use for the calculator). So when I thought I was 7 weeks I was actually probably only almost 6 weeks.

:::January 26, 2015:::
Anyway, when I was what I thought to be 7 weeks 1 day, I started spotting. The spotting quickly turned to bleeding. I immediately called my doctor and they had me go in for an emergency ultrasound. At the ultrasound we saw only a gestational sac which showed the baby to only be about 5 weeks. At this point, they weren't ready to say that I had miscarried. The doctor said that since my cycle was longer I could possibly be only about 5ish weeks. She wanted me to go back the following week for another ultrasound. However, since I'm rh-negative, I had to get a rhogham shot just in case I was miscarrying.

When I went in to get this shot, I ended up also having my hormone levels test. The first hcg test came back at 976, which was considered normal for 5, almost 6, weeks. That was on Monday. However, the bleeding continued. Still no real cramps and the bleeding wasn't even too heavy.

On Wednesday I went back in for my second hcg test. This test took FOREVER to get the results back on. I finally got the results from the front desk of my clinic...but they gave me inaccurate results. They told me my levels were normal at 1147. While the numbers hadn't doubled, they had increased and were in the normal range for 6 weeks.

And then after contacting my doctor for next steps and some more understanding, she informed me that the front desk gave me the results wrong. My levels had actually dropped to only 147 so I was in fact having a miscarriage.

My heart sank.

I had never expected miscarriage to be a part of my story, my experience.

But I also had a greater understanding of what I was losing as I watched my smiley and handsome little boy run laps around the room, knowing that he wasn't yet going to be a big brother.

The bleeding has nearly stopped now (after 5 days of bleeding). It has never gotten heavy. I haven't had major clots and haven't been soaking through pads. But I've still had a miscarriage. We are still waiting to hear what happens next and I'm still processing it all and listening to hear what God has for us in this.

For now, our pregnancy journey this time has ended. I am looking forward to seeing how God uses this in our story to shape our character more and more to be like Him.

One and Done?

Wow. There sure are a lot of things no one tells you in life! Amiright????

From pregnancy to parenting, I feel like there is a lot that got left out. At least for me.

For example, I thought pregnancy was going to be a walk in the park! All "glowing" and fat in a cute way.

For starters, that "glow" that they talk about isn't a "glow" at all...It's more of a sweat like sheen that your face takes on as your skin goes CRRAAAZZZYYY from all those pregnancy hormones and you start sweating your butt off because growing a baby sure makes you heat up!

And I never really felt cute. I just felt huge and swollen. Ain't nothing cute about that.

Oh. And there's something called morning sickness that doesn't just happen in the mornings...and it's not much like what they show in the movies. For real. Why don't they just be honest and call it 24/7 sickness? Does anyone ever just get it in the mornings?

I thought life wouldn't change until AFTER having a baby. Boy was that thought wrong. Pretty sure our lives changed abruptly right after we found out I was pregnant.

I finally had a reason for being SO tired all of the time...which meant I started to give myself permission to go to bed at like 6pm...ha! And to take several naps throughout the day and not feel guilty in. the. LEAST!

And then of course there was the puking which started around 6 weeks and lasted for at least 22  weeks but the constant nausea lasted all 41 weeks. Yep. 10 months of feeling sick.

That's right...10. You didn't misread that. 40 weeks is actually 10 months. Not sure how they get off saying you are only pregnant for 9 months... Do the math...4 weeks in a month. 40 divided by 4 equals 10 last time I checked. Not 9 ;)

And then once said baby is born, you have to start thinking about when you might want #2! No one told me that!

I thought, okay, we will have a baby and just enjoy parenthood and our growing little squishy boy!

And then BAM!

Christian turned one and everyone is all like "When you going to have #2?"

Whaaaaat???

#2? That wasn't even on my radar yet ha ha

I mean, I've always known I wanted more than one little munchkin, and hubby too, but shoot. Time is getting away from us. We have friends with kids Christian's age who have already popped out #2 or #2 is on their way soon! And friends with kids younger than Christian already expecting #2.

Whoa, whoa, whoa.

Time to step off the comparison train, though. We don't all have to do life on the same timeline.

Yes, I've been pinning to my baby #2 board on pinterest. But really, who actually reads all the things they pin?? Wait, you do? Oops. I guess that's just mean who only pins...

Anyway, this post is getting super ADD...Back to one and done.

We went to see some friends a few weeks ago who recently had a baby boy. SUPER cute little man. Wish I would have remembered to take some pictures. Christian gave him kisses and it was so cute!

Both hubby and I thought we were setting ourselves up for major baby fever to begin to set in.

But guess what???

It didn't.

Yes, he was super cute and cozy and fun to snuggle. But man I love this toddler stage so much more. I love the ability to interact. That Christian is starting to have such a little personality with likes and dislikes...that he isn't afraid to let you know :)

That on top of loving Christian so much more than I ever thought possible...I left loving other people's newborns, but unsure if I want one any time soon.

I mean, I don't want to lose any one on one time with Christian and I seriously just love him so much. I can't imagine loving another that much! Although, I hear this is a common mom fear of future second time moms.

But wow. I never thought I could ever even THINK about being a "one and done" mom.

Don't worry. I want more. Hubby wants more. There will someday be more cute little Foote's running around this house. But when, I don't know. I mean, can I even handle all that pregnancy is with an active little boy running around?

How did you decide it was time for #2? Or are you a "one and done" family?

ONE Year ago today...

Jim and I were sitting outside of Red Lobster waiting for a table for dinner.

We were celebrating being married for 4 WEEKS!

As I mentioned before in {this post}, Red Lobster has become a special place for us mainly because of this night one year ago.

Jim and I knew that we wanted to have kids and were excited to start a family. We had chosen to wait to have sex until we were married and decided that we wouldn't use any birth control. It had taken my mom a long time to get pregnant with me, and since I have hypothryroidism, I was worried it might take us awhile too.

We knew there was a chance that we could get pregnant right away, but we were ready if that did happen. In our excitement, we had taken a couple pregnancy tests a few days earlier, just wondering if maybe I was already pregnant. They both had come back negative.

At dinner this night ONE year ago, we were talking about life over the past 4 weeks and Jim just had a strong feeling that I might be pregnant. I wasn't a fan of the idea of taking another test. I was okay if we weren't pregnant yet, as we weren't really trying...we just weren't preventing. But it was still disappointing to see those negative tests every time. Needless to say, Jim convinced me to take another test that night when we got home...after I had had a drink at dinner! Ooops! :/

Well....

Here is what we saw:

(on the Syracuse onesie we bought on Part 2 of our Honeymoon in New York)

Notice how faint that second pink line was?? We stared at that thing unsure if it was real!! And then googled like crazy about faint lines!

And then rushed to the store to buy more tests as that had been my last one! I still remember how nervous and excited I was and how pale white hubby turned!

WE WERE PREGNANT!!!!!

And now, one year later, we have the most adorable baby boy! Never knew my love for another person could keep growing so much!

Such a smiley happy boy he is the light of our lives! :) And this day, one year ago, forever changed our lives! Love you baby boy!

Christian's Birth Story - Chapter 7 ... Growing a Baby

It wasn't long after finding out that they were expecting Baby Foote come May 2013 that the young girl started to feel very sick. She was very confused how this "morning sickness" seemed to last ALL day nearly EVERY day! How sneaky to make her think it would only be in the morning....

It wasn't long before the young girl realized that she should always carry a "puke bag" with her as her nausea could come on out of the blue! She even found herself throwing up in the parking lot at a work event where everyone could see her. "This baby is going to get the guilt trip someday!" the young girl thought.

The nausea lasted until the young girl was about 22 weeks pregnant. Even after that she often felt sick, but the vomiting had at least ended. The young man felt very bad for how sick the young girl was, but at least she never had to be hospitalized. She did often find herself hunched over the toilet bowl, though. One morning, as the girl was leaving for work, she actually gave the young man a kiss good bye and his morning breath sent her running for the toilet!

Even with taking medication to help make her feel better, the young girl found herself very sick. Many smells bothered her...from the smell of the young man to raw meat and chinese food. They all made her want to cry because they made her feel so sick! She would often get very upset with the young man when he would wear cologne or bring home chinese food...ESPECIALLY when he would make chicken speidis or reheat them in the microwave!

The young girl had now been working at her job as an Employment Counselor for just over a year. The young couple knew that once their little bundle of joy arrived, the young girl would become a stay at home mom. However, they decided for the girl to start staying home much sooner.

Managing around 100 clients who relied on the young girl for their childcare and several other support services, the young girl found her job to be quite stressful, which only added to her nausea. Every Sunday night, the young girl would have a panic attack hoping that she could make it through the upcoming work week without needing to take a sick day. Finally, the young girl's doctor recommended she stop working if the couple did not need the extra income. With much debate, the young girl stopped working at 15 weeks pregnant. What a relief!

Around this same time, the couple learned about Intelligender Gender Prediction testing and decided to take a test at home! They were eager to find out if they were having a boy or girl. The test claimed to be 90% accurate if taken with the first mornings urine, but they still weren't going to be positive until their gender ultrasound.

At this point, the young girl had had several dreams about having a baby girl, so she was certain she was having a girl! The young man still was rooting for a boy! They both just really prayed for a healthy baby, though. When the Intelligender Test revealed that they were having a boy, the young girl didn't believe it.

A few weeks after taking the Intelligender Test, the young couple flew to New York to spend Christmas with the young man's family. Since they had just gotten engaged in New York City the year before, the couple had planned a "Baby Moon"to New York City on their way to upstate New York. They would finally get to see the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree and would go ice skating again!

The young man had a few tricks up his sleeve yet again! Once they were on the plane to New York City, he gave the young girl a card with a riddle in it! After a few guesses, the girl learned that they would be having a gender ultrasound done in New York City that night!!! The young man had planned for them to visit GoldenView Ultrasound for a quick gender scan, have the baby's gender written on a Rockefeller Center post card, and for the couple to then go to the ice rink to reveal the gender!

The young girl was in tears! How special! But she also became immediately nervous! This would only be the beginning of nervousness over ultrasounds! She always worried that they would find something wrong with their precious baby.

Seeing their baby on the ultrasound screen made everything seem so real! The cute little baby even sucked his thumb through most of the session. So precious! While baby was being a little shy at first and crossing "its" legs, it later become extremely obvious to the ultrasound tech as to what the baby's sex was. She wrote it on our post card and printed several pictures for us, even noting on a few how she knew the sex.

The couple then headed off to the ice rink in eager anticipation! As they walked to the rink, they chatted about what they thought they saw. The young boy was certain that Baby Foote was a boy and the young girl thought that's what she saw too, but also thought it may have looked like a girl...she wasn't as positive as the young boy.

As soon as the young couple arrived to the rink, they found a spot with a great view of the rink and the tree and pulled out the postcard....

They were having a BOY!

Up until this point, the couple had decided that if they would have a boy they would name him Levi. However, after confirming they were indeed having a boy, the young girl decided she wasn't so sure about this name, but instead loved the name Christian. The young man agreed....Christian was it!

The New York trip and special ultrasound surprise were amazing and made for the best Christmas ever! The young girl was super exhausted and had sore joints and feet from all of the walking, but it was definitely worth it!

Right after New Year's, the couple had their anatomy scan at their doctor's office and it was again confirmed that they were having a boy. However, at this scan the couple also found out that the young girl had a low lying placenta. Her doctor later told her that this was not much of a concern, as it often moves up by 28-32 weeks so they would just do another ultrasound then to be sure. Otherwise, if it doesn't move, the girl would need to have a c-section. Not really a huge deal.

In February the young couple took a trip to Chicago for the young girl's great aunt's funeral. She had come to the end of a long battle with cancer and would be greatly missed. While they were in Chicago, however, the young man had found another GoldenView Ultrasound location and the couple decided to have a 3D/4D ultrasound done and they were so glad that they did! Again, it became even more real to them that they were having a baby as they saw his sweet face on the screen!

At the second medical ultrasound a few weeks later, the girl's placenta had moved up. However, they now were concerned that the baby boy had too much fluid on his kidneys which could be a soft marker for down's syndrome. The young girl became very nervous, but knew that their baby was in God's hands and they would love him no matter what. They were very blessed to find out at their third ultrasound, though, that the fluid levels were normal! Baby boy was strong and healthy! Praise the Lord!

The young girl continued on with a normal, healthy pregnancy, although her swelling continued to increase. At her 38 Week appointment her swelling had really gone up and her blood pressure had also increased so her doctor was worried she might be developing pre-eclampsia and sent the couple for a biophysical profile ultrasound and told them she might be sent to be induced right away! The young girl was extremely nervous! She wasn't prepared to have the baby yet! She wasn't due for 2 more weeks! Luckily, baby was strong and healthy at the ultrasound and left to cook a little bit longer.

The young girl was very patient and not any too eager for baby boy to come too soon. She wanted him to be good and ready, and to be honest, she was pretty nervous so in no hurry! However, after all the talk of inducing early, she started to get more anxious for the day to just come!

With her due date approaching, and the young man's birthday approaching too, it was time to start trying to get this baby out! The young man was very hopeful that he might get to share his birthday with his son...but his birthday came and went...and no baby :(

The young man, who isn't much of a walker, started taking the young girl on LOOOOONG walks. She would have some mild contractions but they would always stop when they stopped walking. Eventually, the young girl's due date came and went...still no baby...

And the story continues....

Christian's Birth Story - Chapter 6 ... Then Comes a Baby in a Baby Carriage - We're Pregnant!

About a week after getting home from their honeymoon, the young girl kept finding herself super tired. She was confused how such a relaxing trip could have left her so tired so she forced herself to stay up until her normal bed time every night and wouldn't allow an earlier bed time.

As the due date for her period drew closer, the couple decided that they should take a pregnancy test, just for fun and to practice for when they really needed to take one! Of course, it came back negative. A few days later, though, they decided to test again...still negative.

On September 15, 2012, the couple went out to dinner to celebrate exactly 4 weeks of marriage! They were chatting away and talking about all that the last 4 weeks had brought. All of a sudden, the young girl realized that her period was a day late, but she was sure it was probably still coming because she was never that regular. Then the young girl realized that she wasn't experiencing any of the normal PMS type symptoms that she normally would be at that point. The young man immediately said that the young girl needed to take another test. The young girl was hesitant, and didn't want to be disappointed yet again. But she decided to take another test as soon as they got home...

And it was POSITIVE!!!

The young girl was in shock and the young man turned as white as a ghost! He was so excited and so shocked and scared all at the same time, as was the young girl! The young man immediately insisted that the couple go to the store and buy more tests, as this was their last test. They needed to be sure that this was an accurate reading.

So to the store they went! The young girl was so embarrassed going in to buy just a pregnancy test and told her young husband to be sure to flash his ring to the cashier A LOT! The young girl was shaking she was so nervous!

Once they got the tests, the young girl immediately took 2 more as soon as they got home. They BOTH were positive again!!!

Right away, they got on the phone and conference called both their moms! They knew right away what the couple had to share and were so excited!!

Next it was time to call the dads...who also were VERY excited!

And the best friend...a text message for her at first and this was her response :)

Just to be sure, the couple decided the young girl should test again first thing in the morning...POSITIVE again!

But still...JUST TO BE SURE...they went to urgent care Sunday afternoon and had a blood test done.
Apparently at home tests are quite accurate and it is highly unlikely that you will get a false positive. As soon as the couple told the doctor that they had gotten several positive test results at home, the doctor confidently said, "You're pregnant" before even giving the young girl the test.

And sure enough...the blood test came back POSITIVE! They were having a baby!

Waiting in the doctor's office...SOOOO nervous!

And the story continues....
